Ever Attend a Spelling Bee?

Neither have we, (fortunately), but the next best thing, (that is definitely better), is the School of Drama’s production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  The show, that is roughly halfway through its run at the New Hazlett Theater, follows six quirky pre-teens in their quest to become the new spelling bee champ.  The musical won two Tony Awards, two Theatre World Awards, and three Drama Desk Awards during its time on Broadway in 2005.  One can only imagine the kind of laughs and musical numbers that can come from a story about precocious middle schoolers in Putnam County.

What: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

When: This Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday @ 8PM (there’s also a matinée performance @ 2PM on Saturday)

Where: New Hazlett Theater, Allegheny Square E. Pittsburgh, PA (the North Side)

Midsummer Night’s Dreams come true

“CMU’s production explores the power of theatre, of fantasy, and of imagination, and asks each of us: Who are we in our dreams? Who can we be? And when we wake from a dream, what can
we take with us into the waking world?”

Tonight at 8pm marks the debut of Carnegie Mellon’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The beloved Shakespeare comedy will be playing through December 4.
